quick update

I have been remiss in my duties. Since we started we have picked up a new player, he is an Urban Ranger Archer currently semi possessed by the spirit of his father. They have fixed the clock tower and the Goblins are citizens. Their friend Fred Cooperson is a captive of Dr. Feegus and before they could rescue him they were thrown into an attempt to stop a Chaositech machine from waking the Galchutt. They succeeded, and in their attempt freed Skeevin from his curse. Which showed them that the strange mage was really an Angel in service to a god of travellers. They also managed to kill off their old enemy the half-orc Blacksmith. They hired the Vai to do the dirty work in the hopes of turning evil against evil. Now the Vai are peeved, as they lost 13 assassins in the attempt. Turns out the blacksmith was a Shapeshifting aberration in service to the Pactlords. The goblin cleric has turned red and the mage is permanently enlarged due to interaction with a Pit of Insanity. They are now preparing to free Fred Cooperson.

Log 3

(still) 5th of Sun 721 IA

Upon reentering the clock tower they notice the stairs up to the second floor have been collapsed. Luk casts stoneshape a couple times to build a small stairway to the trapdoor leading to the second level. They send Link up first and he enters the room and immediately is fired upon with pistols by a group of bird men (Kenku) nesting on this floor. Link slams down his tower shield to provide a little cover for the rest of the group as they climb up. A short and brutal gunfight breaks out and the group is surprised by the amount of damage Nug can dish out. The bird men fall, but then from the third floor 2 half man/ half spider creatures descend and attack. These disgusting creatures look like stitched together spider centaurs, Luk immediately recognizes they were created with chaositech! As the spider monsters attack a new threat shows itself by coming through a secret door to the outside. A winged woman enters the fray and starts singing. Link drops his weapons and starts walking towards her. Nug shoots a hail of bullets at the Harpy, silencing her song. Link is then able to help kill the spider creatures. (They killed everything on this floor in like 3 rounds. Repeater rifles with rapid shot can be brutal, even small sized ones)

Next, the 3rd floor

Log 2

5th of Sun 721 IA (very very early morning)

The group drags the barrels out into the street in front of the clock tower. They gather them together with the corpses of the undead they killed and pour oil on the pile. As it starts burning a light snow begins to fall and 2 lizard men vagrants wander up to warm themselves by the fire. As the group discusses their next move a unit of the City Watch walks up and demands to know what is going on. They eye the goblins warily as Link moves forward to address them. Link shows them his papers and explains that they have undertaken investigating the clock tower on behalf of the Delvers Guild. The watchmen then send a runner for their captain to get advise on how best to handle this situation.

With the arrival of Watch Captain Van Mach things start to get sorted out. The group quickly realizes that Van Mach is no regular captain, he is adorned in wands, scroll cases and his main weapon appears to be a staff crackling with energy. He immediately recognizes Link as a construct and realizes the goblins are in charge not servants or slaves. But Van Mach strikes a deal with them and agrees to help them (goblins) get citizenship if they can clean out the tower. He has been having trouble with the chaos cultists in old town for a while and welcomes the help in dealing with them. He posts guards outside and tells them not to let anyone enter the clock tower without his or the goblins permission. He then gives the goblins a few days to take care of things.

With the approval of the watch bolstering them the goblins and Link go back in to figure a way into the second floor of the tower…..

Gidon the Steelhand

Gidon the Steelhand

Gidon the Steelhand is a minor goblin god of technology. His history can be found here . Gidon is a Neutral Good god with the domains of Good, Technology, and Knowledge. His favored weapon is a dragon pistol

Goblin Tech Priest

A Goblin Tech Priest is a variant on the Cloistered Cleric from Unearthed Arcana

The Tech Priest spends more time than other clerics in study and prayer and less in martial training. He gives up some of the cleric's combat prowess in exchange for greater skill access and a wider range of spells devoted to knowledge and technology(and the protection of those).

Hit Die

The tech priest uses a d6 for his Hit Die (and has hit points at 1st level equal to 6 + Con modifier).

Base Attack Bonus
The tech priest's lack of martial training means that he uses the poor base attack bonus.
Class Skills

The tech priest's class skill list includes Disable Device, Open Lock, Speak Language, Knowledge ( machines), and Knowledge (engineering). The tech priest gains skill points per level equal to 6 + Int modifier (and has this number x4 at 1st level).

Class Features

The tech priest has all the standard cleric class features, except as noted below.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency

Tech priests are proficient with simple weapons and with light armor.

Lore (Ex)

Thanks to long hours of study, a tech priest has a wide range of stray knowledge. This ability is identical to the bard's bardic knowledge class feature, using the cloistered cleric's class level in place of the bard level.

Deity, Domains, and Domain Spells

All known tech priests worship Gidon the Steelhand, a minor goblin god. But they could worship other gods of technology as well.

In addition to any domains selected from his deity's list, a tech priest automatically gains the Technology domain as a bonus domain (even if the Technology domain is not normally available to clerics of that deity). He gains the Technology domain granted power and may select his bonus domain spell from the Technology domain or from one of his two regular domains.

Turning Undead

A tech priest does not turn undead, instead they get the Create Ironborn feat for free at 3rd level. They get this feat even if they do not meet the prerequisites

Log 1, the days leading up to the taking of the Clock Tower

3rd of Sun 721 IA
After the decimation and scattering of their friends Lukugk, Link, and Nug decide to try a different path to financial stability and eventual citizenship. They let Jevicca know that they were done with the Banewarrens and Pythonese house after the debacle a few days earlier where their friends were lost. She said she understood and suggested they try the Delvers Guild for some work, she would continue to work with Fred Cooperson and his group on the Banewarrens problem.

4th of Sun 721 IA
After a restless night in a seedy inn the small tattered group makes it's way to the Delvers Guild headquarters and starts asking around for any jobs that need doing. They here a few interesting rumours, but the one that jumps out at them is about the Clock Tower. Apparantly at one point in time the catacombs below it had been an easy way to get into the dungeons and then to the Giants Staircase. But in the last few months Delvers stopped using it, as they were coming up missing or developing a mysterious rotting disease after entering the tower. Then, on the 6th of Yearsend the Clock Tower had it's doors locked and a condemned sign put up. The goblins got to thinking it would look good for them to clean up the tower and maybe even get the long stopped clock to work again. They were, after all, a very tech savvy tribe of goblins. So they started making preparations to enter the tower that night and do a little investigation.

Later that night, under cover of dark, they arrived at the Clock Tower in Oldtown. After listening at the door and hearing nothing Link smashed it down. Inside the filthy room they see several barrels, a desk and chair and 2 rune covered corpses standing in the corner by the stairs leading up to the 2nd level. Immediately the corpses lunge forward with axes in hand. Link takes up a defensive position in the middle of the room as Nug circles and fires her repeater rifle. The corpses manage to score only one hit on Link before they are brought down be the combined gunfire of Luk and Nug. Luk recognizes the runes on the now lifeless corpses as symbols of chaos. Suddenly the stairs in the corner collapse and a trapdoor slams shut over the opening in the roof! Content to let whatever was up there hide for now the group searches the first floor.

In the barrels they find a weird solution and strange fleshy masses, Luk says it's organic chaositech. In the desk they find some gold and a strange "recipe" book for growing the organs. It also mentions several chaos "machines" being built around the city to help bring about something called the "Night of Dissolution". The group decides to keep the book and burn the rest. (We ended the session here)

History of the Clock Tower goblins

Written by the player of Nug

History:
86 BE: Ghul creates the Steelbrood goblins from various sources of flesh and bone, along with grafted pieces of steel to fight the legions of Dwarves with Dwarven technology. The brood was led by a particularly small goblin, skilled in healing and magic, with half mechanical limbs and a magical, adamantine eye.
60 BE: Infuriated by their treatment by Ghul and his forces and enlightened by their great
goblin leader known as Gidon Steelbrood, the Steelbrood goblins rebelled against their master while he was weakened by previous battles, led by Gidon’s five leading warriors.
55 BE: The tribe retreated to the catacombs beneath what would become the city of Ptolus. Gidon then reassigned surnames for his fellow goblins, based upon their talents and accomplishments. The Oozeeater clan was so-named for their leader’s ingenuity in creating a machine to clean out an area of the catacombs for inhabitation. The Steeltooth excelled at leadership and organization, and were exceptionally kind and good. The more agile and intelligent leader was named Ironclaw; Metalmaw was the surname granted to the family of his fearless and ferocious warrior. Finally, Ironbone stemmed from the particularly hardy goblin who endured more abuse at the hands of Ghul than anyone.
1 IA: The death of Gidon. After Gidon’s passing, the goblin clans came to know him as Gidon the Steelhand. His story and legacy was passed down, though he never birthed any direct descendants.
212 IA: Gidon the Steelhand ascends, after his people begin to worship him as their great savior and the bringer of light.
650 IA: The Steelhand goblins move deeper into the sewers, after the city begins to expand. The tribe has grown slowly from a small population of about twenty-five to about seventy.
700 IA: A gnome entrepreneur stumbles upon the goblins, injured and fleeing from bandits. Promac Thimblethumbs is taken in by the Steelhand, healed, and accepted into the group, where he stays for two to three years.
703 IA: Promac opens a store in Ptolus, selling goblin wares. Members of the clan venture from the sewers cautiously to join in endeavors in the city for the first time since their retreat to the sewers almost 750 years previous.
721 IA: A group of delvers led by a Shuul member happens upon the goblins, and considers goblins undeserving of the technology they possess. He reports back to the Shuul about his findings. The Shuul plan and execute a raid and massacre of the Steelhand goblins. The unknowing and usually peaceful Steelhand goblins were left devastated. Many goblins lay dead and much of their technology was stolen. The goblins flee the sewers to the clock tower, which their chieftess and highest priest are attempting to obtain. They are met there by Promac and find refuge within the clock tower of Old Town.
Today: The goblins live safely in the clock tower, though still with a fear of the Shuul attempting another attack. A favorite goblin among Old Town, the Guard, and the tribe was assassinated only a month ago in front of their home. The restoration of the clock is nearly complete, only lacking a magical stone for power. Buzz of the Old Town Clock Tower and its occupants runs rampant through the city, as the Steelhand goblins hand out souvenirs and trinkets with the emblem of the Clock Tower and Gidon the Steelhand embossed. They can also be seen out around Old Town, cleaning up the streets, helping with chores, and handing out trinkets, but never very far from Guardsmen.

Appearance & Customs:
The azure skin of the Steelhand goblins tells them apart from the orange goblins native to the city. The Steelhand are small, with eye colors ranging from yellow to green to black. Most are pierced in their long ears and noses, with black tattoos across their ankles, wrists, necks, and sometimes backs. Clothes, shoes, and simple jewelry are necessities, as are daily baths. Children are allowed to play and expected to only do minor household chores rather than heavy work, though games that encourage learning are greatly supported. Helping one another is the foundry for the tribe, so the extension of help and caring to the Ptolus community is only natural since their ventures into the city. The tribe is still very shy, though, as the Shuul and many others show them great hostility.

Clan Specializations:
Oozeeater: Firearms and alchemy.
Steeltooth: Glass and ceramics.
Metalmaw: Mechanical and metalworking.
Ironclaw: Tanning and tailoring.
Ironbone: Carpentry and metalworking.

**These specializations become increasingly muddled as the tribe grows, since the clans are becoming quite mixed.

A brief retelling of past events.....

The start of our current campaign took place outside of the city, about 50 miles away from Ptolus on the South Road. The group was much larger at that time, consisting of 7 players. They struggled through a haunted inn and battled a demon spider. Along the way they freed a caravan guard named Fred Cooperson from the clutches of the demon spider. They then journeyed to the city.

They became involved at that time with a black smith named Elias Inthower. He hired them to find a key to a vault below the city. Elias believed the key to be held by small time criminals in the Docks District. The group infiltrated a warehouse in the docks district after staking the place out and finding it to be used as a front for said criminal activity. They broke in, fought several criminals and as Ogre, and managed to acquire the key.

From there they joined the Delvers guild to gain access to the library. They researched the key and found the likely place it was held. So they traveled underground only to become embroiled in a conflict between a small kobold tribe and a group of the Plagueborn chaos cultists. They assisted the kobolds in defeating the cultists and freed their young Black Dragon queen from the clutches of a strange Chaositech mind controlling parasite. Unfortunately nearly all of the kobolds died from a horrible wasting disease. This caused the young dragon queen abandoned her small underground demesne. But not before she informed House Dallimothan of the groups actions, earning them favor with that noble house. The newly minted Delvers found the door that the key went to, but chose not to open it. It appeared to be sealed for a reason and had they had come across a small cell that most likely held a vampire at bay. They surmised that they had been duped by Elias into almost unleashing something very evil.

This is when things went from bad to worse. They gave the key over to Jevicca Nor for safe keeping in the vaults of the Inverted Pyramid. She asked them to investigate the Banewarrens after the release of a self proclaimed avatar of chaos. They made it into the first rooms of the Banewarrens before being forced to retreat. On their way out they ran into Fred Cooperson once again, he had become a Delver and been hired by the Church of Lothian to investigate the Banewarrens. The group was glad to see that he was doing well. They left Fred and his group to guard the entrance and went to look for a key to travel further into the Banewarrens. Their investigation led them to Pythonese House looking for an artifact called the All-Key. After their first foray into the house they were unsuccessful in getting the key and were ambushed by Vai Assassins hired by Elias. All but 3 were killed (this is when our group split up and got smaller). This brings us to the present.....

Npc's and Contacts

Prilmac Thimblethumbs: Male/Gnome/ The Clock Tower Goblins "face man". This affable gnome runs a shop filled with clockwork toys, compasses and the like. He sells the goblins goods for them. His shop can be found on the first floor of the clock tower. He is also a talented Machine Smith in his own right.

Skevin: Male/Human?/A strange member of the Inverted Pyramid who seems to have a plethora of knowledge in regards to the various chaos cults. This hunched and decrepit looking figure was first encountered outside of a very unwholesome brothel. He(?) seems to have an unhealthy fascination with feet and oozes. Skevin is also known to be at least 350 years old.

Ginsa Hammerblight: Female/Dwarf/ This Dwarf has a booth in the undercity market that sells guns. She has set up a business agreement with the Clock Tower Goblins to sell their wares and funnel business between the 2. The goblins are also fixing broken guns she purchases from delvers.

Heinrich Van Mach: Male/Human/ The watch captain for Oldtown. He is friendly with the Goblins and approves of what they are doing with the Clock Tower. Anything to improve "his" district is a good thing. He keeps 1 or 2 watch members near the Clock Tower to run off misguided Delvers that want to clean out the "goblin infestation" and to watch for the return of the chaos cultists.

Fred Cooperson: Male/Human/ Fred is the son of a barrel merchant in the north market. He became a caravan guard to "see the world". What he ended up seeing was the inside of the nest of a Demon Spider. He was saved by the original group of adventurers, and is still on good terms with the current group. He has come home and started making a name for himself as a Delver, and has even been joined by the clock tower goblins resident paladin.
